Angkor Thom means "the great city". It was the last great capital of the Angkorian Empire. It is the largest site in the Angkor Archaeological Park.
At its peak, it was estimated that the city had a population of nearly one million. To enter the city, you must pass through one of the five large entrance gates, which are topped by four giant faces and the bridges leading to the gates are lined with statues.
Inside, Angkor Thom has several of the most impressive temples of the Angkorian period: Bayon Temple, Baphuon, Elephant Terrace, Leper King's Terrace and Phimeanakas.
